From his grandma last word, he learns that he is the decent  from a line of "guardians" known as "Grimms", charged with keeping balance between humanity and the mythological creatures of the world called Wesen. Wesen in German means creature , which is the some of the human in their inner is actually a creature that cannot see by normal human being.
